The Liberia SeriesIn 2003, Liberia emerged from fourteen years of brutal social conflict. During this time more than 95% of the country’s infrastructure—clinics, hospitals and schools were damaged or destroyed. As a direct result, Oxfam International estimates that at the end of the country’s civil crisis Liberia had an illiteracy rate of 90% among women and more than 75% among men. Considering more than half of Liberia’s population is under the age of 25, our first cycle of books is dedicated to the children of Liberia.
